Q & A
Strahinja on art and b.arty
I explore plastic qualities of materials, mainly classic sculpture materials – stone, plaster, terracotta and wood and man-made materials. The subjects are daily objects whose values, symbolic and meaning in society (literature, religion and folklore expression) I explore and present in a unique way.
My visual poetic, born out of deep affection for the materials, offers a viewer a personal artistic expression where everything looks monumental, robust, clear and endurable. Experimenting with materials and a desire to transform them into an object of art through a childlike curiosity is not to ,,,for as long as a man is faced with a material world he’ll want to transform it and adjust it to his needs.
I do art as I have a need to find a space where a personal expression, exploration and communication with society come together. Through the creative process I develop creativity and critical thinking, at the same time exploring the contemporary subjects and values shaping our reality.
I believe art has a power to initiate questions, inspire change and create new perspectives, and doing art for me means a contribution to the community and culture and perpetual personal and professional development.
The biggest challenges I face as an artist is finding a space for work, funds for materials and balancing time for art and other responsibilities.
